CLINICAL PERSPECTIVE

Individual surgical planning

Scar changes, contractures and burn sequelae: individual assessment of function, tissue condition and surgical options.

Scar revision

The approach to scar revision depends on tissue condition and the risk of recurrence. Surgery creates a new scar; keloids may recur and sometimes need staged or combined treatment.

Post-burn reconstruction

Burn injuries can cause scar contractures and restriction of movement. Surgical planning considers functional restoration, coverage quality and the possible need for staged procedures.

We discuss anatomy, indications, alternatives, limitations, scars, anaesthesia and recovery. Website information does not replace individual assessment.

Planning your procedure

Scar revision aims to improve appearance and release tissue tightness; it cannot erase a scar completely. Discuss recurrent thickening, pigmentation, healing and combined surgical and nonsurgical treatment.

Recovery and follow-up

Recovery includes wound care and scar-maturation review. Additional treatment and activity restrictions depend on the site and extent of surgery.

Procedure considerations and risks

Anaesthesia, bleeding, infection and wound healing are also discussed for any surgery. Your individual risks and alternatives are reviewed during consultation.

Questions to discuss

  1. What would you like to change?
  2. What features would you like to preserve?
  3. Which risks and limitations matter most to you?

Your surgical plan, expected changes and recovery steps are agreed with you during consultation.
